Koru Whānau
Pieces
Personalised, textured art pieces using Koru to symbolise family members/generations
Meaning of the
Koru
The koru, which is often used in Māori art as a symbol of creation, is based on the shape of Aotearoas unfurling silver fern frond. Its circular shape conveys the idea of perpetual movement, and its inward coil suggests a return to the point of origin. The koru therefore symbolises the way in which life both changes and stays the same - bringing new beginnings, life and hope.

Koru Whānau Pieces
Currently I am drawing most of my inspiration from our beautiful country of Aotearoa and using my creative gift as a way to begin a journey of learning about my own Māori heritage through art and language that I was unable to explore growing up. In my Whānau pieces you will find both a traditional Māori art symbol by way of the Koru along with a natural colour palette as a nod to our beautiful vast landscapes.
Aotearoa is a country rich in geological history, it is home to snow-capped mountains, sweeping beaches, ancient volcanic peaks and craters, lush native forests, glassy lakes and fjords, and the rising steam and bubbling mud of our otherworldly geothermal areas - to not take in these remarkable and beautiful gifts, along with NZ's diverse culture and use them as inspiration - would be an incredible opportunity missed.
